VILLAGE FAIR 2010

Report by Lis Woolley

Chairman of Village Fair Planning Committee

This year’s fair was bigger than ever with new attractions including an Assault Course which was 120’ long, 9 holes of Crazy Golf, Archery, a Cactus lasso and a Coconut Shy all provided by Felbridge School. There was also a display by a local beekeeper.

Old favorites included a Penalty Shoot Out, Tin Can Alley, Face Painting, Bottle Tom bolas, Silent Auction, Cakes and a Raffle and once again Danecourt Nurseries brought colour to the site with a wonderful selection of plants.

The PTA ran an all-day Bar and BBQ and the Guides served us well with tea, coffee and refreshments. Other delights to keep us all sustained were Strawberries & Cream, Milk Shakes, Ice cream and a Pimms stall provided by The Star Inn.

We were delighted to welcome Mr. Sam Gyimah, the recently elected MP for East Surrey who has a home in Oxted. He showed great interest in the stalls and was interested to meet local people and see village life in action.

Once again Felbridge History Group mounted an interesting display of local history including photographs and artifacts and we are grateful to Jeremy and Stephonie Clarke for all the time they give to keeping such excellent records.

Entertainment was provided by a Punch & Judy show, Country Dancing by Felbridge School, a dance workshop with Roshe School of Dance, Children’s Races and a Tug-of-War organized by St John’s Church.

The PTA wish to thank their sponsors who included Martells, As Good As New (double glazing repairs), Bryant Garden & Landscaping Ltd, Howard Cundey, The Star Inn and Sing & Sign.

Other sponsors who made the event possible were Crawley Down Garage, the Felbridge Hotel, the Village Shop, Rags Hair Studio, Rumblin’ Tums, World of Fishes and Horne Park Golf.

The event was a great success thanks to a lot of hard work by dedicated local people and groups including Felbridge Horticultural Society, Felbridge WI, Felbridge Parish Council, Humpty Dumpty playgroup, Felbridge School, Felbridge Guides and St. John’s Church.
